Novi V8s spent years screaming around the Brickyard with their distinctive sound. Many skilled and experienced drivers tried to win the 500 with a Novi but no one pulled it off. The last man with extreme faith in the motor was the wild and crazy and brave Jim Hurtubise. He put the Novi on the front row in 1960 and lead the race in the opening laps only to have the motor break. He raced a Novi powered Roadster all the way to 1967, the last roadster to compete. He never won Indy but he won the hearts of the fans and had a huge following.
