Stevie Bonsey has the luck of the Irish......,
....to survive this flyer ! Bryan Smith layed down his Factory Indian right on the racing groove at the Texas Half Mile National right in front of the pack. Jake Johnson had no where to go but straight over the Indian which promptly threw him to the ground directly in front of Stevie Bonsey who nailed the Estenson Yamaha amidship and sent Bonsey on a Moon Launch of the first order. As we all know Stevie is racing this season after a year and half off for a broken back ( where like this endo, was completely not his fault). To see him launched like this was terrifying, knowing his surely tender condition. Steve must have been gymnast because he executed what would be a 10 point dismount from a crazy height. He landed feet first and hobbled away from it with apparently a broken ankle, which is amazing ! Remember he suffered a wheel breaking off his bike after landing the TT jump in the Daytona opener. He didn't get a scratch in that one. This Texas wreck ruins Stevies plans for the West Coast swing where he was hoping to get three wins on the Dodge Bros. super fast and reliable HD XR750s. Bonsey is one tough MF and depending on how bad the ankle is and which side it is, he may mount up and gas it as only Stevie can. Whatever happens, this last one will be remembered because Flat Track Photog Extraordinaire, Dave Hoenig caught the whole thing perfectly. Jake is banged up and sore and Bryan Smith has a broken leg and out till who knows. Speedy recovery to all involved.
