Ascot Park 1990 The End Of An Era in American Motorcycle Racing.
I used to live in Rancho Palos Verdes, right up the hill from Ascot. We could hear the first lap of the sprint car races from the backyard when twenty sprint cars would romp on it, in unison at the start of the race. When I first moved to Los Angeles I heard they had Kart races every thursday night in the dry months so, I went out and found a used dirt track Emmick Arrow II Yamaha 100. I never attended a kart race there before but, showed up first race of the season and raced there on the 1/4 mile for several years. That was a lot of fun. Perfect size and surface for karts. I also raced sickles on the TT course, when the Lightweights M.C. put on daytime TTs. What a blast riding the same exact track as my heros. After the sprint car races we always went to the Slick Track for a real hoot. Polished cement and talcum powder provided a super consistant surface for some of the best, fun racing ever. The Speedway Motorcycle Track, bottom left,
was so small but the bikes put on a great show. BMX track was a nice addition to the facility. Ascot Park Gardena, where to 405 the 91 and the 110 SLIIIDE ! Gone, but never forgotten.
