Steve Baker, Americas First Road Racing World Champ

Steve was inducted into the Trailblazers Hall of Fame. His humble flat track beginnings at the small bullrings of the N.W. and B.C. Canada, fueled a stella career in the big leagues of motorcycle racing. 1977 was the year Steve remembers best. A Daytona 200 victory, a World Championship in Formula 750, with the newest most powerful bikes and Second Place in World 500cc GP, right behind Barry Sheene but beating all the other greats of the Golden Era, namely Ago, Hailwood and Kenny Roberts. I did meet Steve at the event and got him to sign my fan porn. I told him I have seen him race quite a few times back in the day, at Sidewinders in Clackamas, Oregon and Castle Rock, Washington were he was a regular at both tracks. He said Sidewinders was an absolute blast to ride, echoing what most riders feel about the uphill, downdale little dirt speed bowl, tucked in a beautiful Douglas Fur Forest. Congratulations Steve on you induction into the HOF.
