Not to race unfortunately, but as a tribute. They should be racing, while still Legal. The Dodge Bros proved the XR-750 is still highly competitive and can hold its own against the Indian. Sammy only wanted to ride it on small tracks ,for his safety. There are good riders that could hold their own on one in Half Mile and Mile Competition.
Carver excels on an XR. Hammerin' Hank knows how to get the job done on one. There are current Yamaha, Kawi and R.E. and KTM and Honda riders who most likely do better on one than their current rides. Coolbeth and Smith, XR-750 Wizards. Jake Johnson on his Zanotti Racing XRs would most probably clean up. All these guys are right there at the Races. An XR-750 Only Class is not impossible. Fans dont come to see the current bikes because of Make. It just doesn't draw them. The mean age of Flat track Fans is way up there. In fact, it would be interesting to really know that number. You look at the crowd which is in the majority GREY. They Know, Love and Miss these wonderful, carismatic machines. The XR at Ventura sang a beautiful tune, putting smiles on faces of the faithful. While the rest of the field sounded like shit as they hit the RL right off the corner, it was bad.
