The Dodge Bros came to Ventura with the hopes of duplicating their Daytona performance. Sammy had the XR 750 singing but didnt have the comfort level they had in Florida. They made some changes but to no avail, Sammy was 3/10ths off Pole time, leaving him in 15th position ! He battled hard in the heat and got a second row outside starting position, right behind Mees in the Main. He fought through to 5th and someone crashed and they got a single file restart. Once again battling for 5th with #67 Davis Fisher, Pole Winner when disaster struck and his rear brake carrier disintrgrated, locking the rear wheel and throwing Sammy down the track. That part never fails, but this Wildwood one did, ending what looked like what was going to be a pretty good night. The XR-750 is as viable as it ever was on this type of track and with any luck this weekend at the Chico banked Short Track Sammy can find his Daytona speed and get that elusive last victory for the iconic XR.
