The bikes were different and beautiful in a quirky Harley style, paying tribute to their road racing heritage. They certainly were underdogs, so as Harley Fans we were willing along the team looking for any positive and feeling the lumps when things didn't go as planned. They looked great in their racing Orange & Black, they had a wonderful sound and you knew the riders were giving it everything they had. You could see it, they made up for bike performance with extra attack.
There was also a great Privateer group on VRs that really were dedicated and enjoyed being in the thick of it with their own exotic Factory Racers.
Doug Chandler, Flat Tracker who became an uber road racer and ended up in the 500cc World Championship. My real appreciation for Chandler was seeing him win over and over at Ascot where he dominated the Gardena Half-Mile for a long consecutive period, riding a Honda RS750.
