I once had the pleasure of meeting and hanging out with Gary Nixon when he came to race a vintage road race held in the parking lot of the Del Mar race track in San Diego. He was a very nice guy, fun and friendly. He was really enjoying the action as much as us guys. There was a situation where we were being asked to leave a fantastic viewing spot of the racing, fairly close to the track, but safe, in our opinion. I suggested he use his star power and help the situation. He gave me a scrounched up face and a shake of his head and a "no, no, no". We exited toot suite.
Here he seems to be getting to grips with the power of a Yamaha 80 at a local race. A National Champ racing with the yokels, says a lot about the man.
