Mario Andretti's Three Quarter Midget

Mario has to be America's greatest racing driver because of all his victories in such a broad range of machinery from F1 to USAC Dirt Cars and of course, Indy cars. It all started with a Nash stock car that he and his brother Aldo, built and raced and as I just found out, this TQ Midget from 1961-62. It pleases me no end that it was Triumph 650 Twin powered. Mario is also a great motorbike enthusiast.
TQs were powered by Indians, Harleys, outboard motors, Crosleys and many other brands. I had the pleasure of driving for a few laps on Ascots 1/4 mile (inside the half mile. I had raced my Emmick Arrow II Go Kart on this track for years, so I new the place well) in an Edmunds TQ powered by a Honda 750-4 with Hilborne injection. It had been a successful car and had a winning history. As I quickly found out it would only run wide open and run it did ! You did all your driving with the wheels spinning wildly. You only kinda lifted twice a lap to get it to back into the corners and then back to flat footing' it. TQs are still being raced and are little jewels with v-twins and v-fours hanging in front of the left rear wheel. My wet dream is a XR750 Powered TQ.

Nicely engineered adapter to In-Out box to mini quick change rear end.
Seven years later Mario won his one and only Indy 500 in his Hawk which was his back up car.

He wrote this Lotus off in practice when something broke and smacked him into the wall in a huge fireball. He had already qualified it on the front row.
From TQ Midgets at New Jersey bull rings to winning the biggest race in the world in a mere seven years.
