Sweet Victory !
Kiss the Bricks, you deserve it !
Sato raced them hard for 500 miles, the last ten laps he passed for the lead and dominated to the checkers. A very determined drive from a worthy winner.
Helio Castroneves fought Sato to the best of his ability but the 3 time Indy 500 Winner could not get within the draft past range for the last five laps. It was a fantastic finish with the top three within striking distance.
Fernando Alonso, Two time F1 World Champion, really livened up the program at this years 500.
He qualified an incredible 5th as a rookie. Shortly into the race Alonso was in the lead and on the gas. He got swamped on a couple of restarts but fought back and impressed 300,000 fans who gave him a standing ovation after his Honda engine ( 2.2 L V6 Twin Turbo) blew sky high with not many laps left. He has to come back. I bet on his second attempt he would be a real contender. Nice job Fernando.
Dixon leads from Pole.
Scott Dixon (Pole Sitter, Track Record Holder) thanked car builder Dallara after he stepped out and walked away from one of Indy's more spectacular crashes.
Dixon flys through the air as eventual 2nd place finisher Helio Castroneves scoots right underneath. Indy 2017 lived up to reputation as the greatest race in the world. Wire to wire excitement.Congrats to Takuma Sato, to win that race like you did, proves you are one of the world's great race car drivers.
