Ascot, somewhere between Mecca and Las Vegas

Ascot, still fresh in the memory of a lot of us. Quarter Mile and Half Mile. Sprint Cars , Midgets,TQ Midgets. WOO Winged Sprinters,Stock Cars ,Dune Buggies, Go-Karts, Moto-Cross , Speedway and of course Flat Track Motorcycles. I once went with a buddy of mine ,Nick VanNuegtren, Rally Factory Mazda RX7 driver and they had a timed event which started on the front straight, one lap of the Quarter Mile and then come out on the Half Mile and complete one lap. Rally Cars love sideways.
Ascot was a sun dried patch of dusty parched soil ,smack dab in the middle of the biggest cement jungle ever devised by man. At night ,under the lights, Ascot took on a different personality and turned into an exciting, magical place where intrigue and danger mixed with flat out ambition, a heady addictive mix that hooked every speed junkie that walked through the gates.
This weekend at the AMA Pomona Half Mile, right up against the Los Angeles Mountains, the Ascot Flat Track Reunion #2 will be held in conjunction with the big final show down for the NO.1 Plate. Jerry Greer bowled a strike with the first reunion and I expect this second one will be just as full on fantastic.
