Our old friend the Desert Tortoise

If you spend any time at all in the desert in the South West you are well familiar with this guy, the Desert Tortoise. Put on the Endangered List in 1990 to protect it from idiot shooters and off-roaders looking for a little extra traction, their numbers have increased dramatically and they are a fairly common sight. They have always been popular as pets and although you cant take one home from the desert there are so many in captivity and broods of about 15 mean you don't have to look far if you want a couple of them ( two is best for company and if you get lucky, a breeding pair)
