Joe Kopp Calistoga Calamity

Joe was lucky to get through this one unscathed. He pitched it in to One ,chasing Chris Carr only to have the swing arm bolt shear at the threaded nut. This has happened before and is a weakness with the Harleys. I read where rolled threads are used in the aviation world to prevent this cut thread malady. You can see the offending swing arm shaft hanging out in the breeze. Joe did a splendid job hanging onto the bars and sliding backwards right into the Air Fence. He took a good hit and the crowd held their breath as he shook it off,but he got up and walked away to the cheers of concern and relief.
